Robson puts herself in to the last 32 with a convincing win over Colombian Mariana Duque-Marino
Laura Robson covincingly advances in to the third round after beating Colombian Mariana Duque-Marino on Wimbledon's centre court.
The game ended 6-4, 6-1 with Robson looking incredibly confident throughout the whole game. This is the first time the young tennis player has reached the last 32 of the competition and she does so with momentum on her side as she goes on to face world number 71, Marina Erakovic.
Despite gaining a win today where she showed some real promise, power and skill, the 19 year old has a lot to work on before she meets New Zealander, Erakovic, in the next round. Erakovic will prove a much bigger challenge to Robson that 117th-ranked Mariana Duque-Marino was. Robson's
serve was one of her best weapons, when she got it right that is. On too many occasions Robson failed to capitalise on that extremely useful aspect of her game by making her self suffer through double faults and weak serves that allowed her opposition to return with force and conviction.
Movement is another thing that is slightly worrying for the tennis player. She needs to work on her ability to move from flank to flank. By improving the consistency of her serve and the fluidity of her movement she will have a much better chance of success when facing her next opponent. However, is this possible to do in a matter of days?
Robson's forehand was a delight to watch. She slammed the ball in to Mariana Duque-Marino's with power that left the Colombian with no ability except that of being able to watch the ball go bounce on to the court and off again from the other side of the court.
There is no denying that Robson has a lot of work to do before her next match and even more work to do before she can compete with players such as Sharapova and Wozniacki but for now she can be happy with the way she has played and even with the progress she has shown since the French Open only a few weeks ago.
