Murray through to semi-final after a less than comfortable win on centre court

Murray pulls through to win his Wimbledon quarter final 4-6 3-6 6-1 6-4 7-5, in a five set thriller on centre court.

It's not easy being a supporter of British sport. The stress that comes with supporting your respective country such as supporting Wales in rugby (Welsh football involves too much stress), England in football world cups and more recently, supporting Scotland in tennis. Murray does know how to keep the nation on the edge of their seats doesn't he.

Murray's five set win against Spaniard, Fernando Verdasco, came with the Scott having to do a little bit more work than seemed comfortable. The second seed's run of no dropped sets came to an abrupt holt yesterday as the British number one was down 2 sets to 0 on centre court before he had time to even comprehend what was going on. The 26 year old came uncomfortably close to joining Nadal on a beach in Spain as the score read 4-6 3-6 to Verdasco. Was it going to be another disappointing year for British tennis in the All England Club? It certainly felt like it was going to be.

That is until the third set. Although Verdasco was up 2 sets to 0 and was agonisingly close to going through to his first Wimbledon semi-final, it was the world number 54 that looked like he was under the most pressure. The Spaniard seemed to take his foot off the pedal and within 31 minutes Murray had began his epic comeback winning the third set 6-1.

By only taking advantage of 5 out of 11 break point chances, Murray had to battle hard in the fourth set to keep his hopes of another chance at the Wimbledon title alive. It all came down to the fifth set and at this point the supporters inside Centre court were reaching the maximum level of tension their bodies could take. Both players were managing to hold their serves and the score was kept even for the majority of the set. Verdasco, who is currently not even in the world's top 50, used his powerful serve to his advantage and Murray found it hard throughout the match to return the ball with success thus allowing Verdasco to achieve an incredibly high success rate on his forehand. Verdasco even managed a few aces of his second serve.

Murray's serve wasn't bad either and despite a camera flash disturbing his game for a second, the Scotsman managed to deliver and with a deafening roar that has not been heard since the Olympics, Murray broke his oppositions serve and had the chance of serving out the match. Even with the crowds excitement flooding the court, Murray managed to keep his concentration and won the last set 7-5.

A five set match might not be the best preparation for the number two seed as he begins to think about his semi-final match against Polish giant Jerzy Janowicz . Although, by being put through his paces Murray will now have much more to concentrate on in training which will inevitably improve his game much more than if he had one in straight sets. The only British player left in the tournament showed great character and professionalism to not panic when he found himself 2 sets down and to fight back in the way that he did. Murray goes in to his next match with a 16 match winning streak on grass.

Let's go Andy, Lets go.
